In this episode we see Mohamed Salah in one of his greatest performances during the 2013/14 season against Chelsea. His team; Basel needed a win to keep their qualification hopes alive for the last 16. It was the 2nd time facing Chelsea in the group after beating them 1-2 at Stamford Bridge; Salah scored in that one too. This was also the 4th game between both sides in 7 months, Salah had been a headache for Chelsea the 1st three games against them and it wasn’t going to change now. He destroyed the defence and was a real thorn in the side. Salah scored the winner in the 87th minute. The game ended 1-0 as Basel completed the double over Chelsea, but they couldn’t quite make it to the last 16 losing to Schalke on the final match day. The 21 year old finished with 16 goals and 10 assists for both club and country up until January 2014. Chelsea signed him during the winter window for €16.5M!

“The Match That Made” is an established series that I started doing back in 2018. The concept is to show the superstars of today, in their best performance of the season before they got signed to a top club. Of course 1 game doesn’t make the player who they are today but those special performances are the ones that catch the eyes of world watching!

Let me know who you would like to see next time on “The Match That Made”!
